Karter Kovar

Mike has been involved in hockey for over 25 years. His playing career included: 4 years at NCAA Division 1 Lake Superior State in Michigan, 4 years of Junior A hockey in the USHL and NAHL and nearly 100 professional games with the Boise Steelheads, Utah Grizzlies and Tulsa Oilers. He has been coaching at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels for over 10 years. Mike has a passion for coaching youth hockey.

Mike was assistant coach for the 16U Tier 2 team and head coach for the 10U D1 White team during the 2020-2021 season.
Originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Karter got his start playing for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders development program. After Karter's family relocated to Park City, Karter played up and was part of the PC Ice Miners team that won the 2016 U16 State Championship, led by his current coaching partner, Mike Adamek. He played two years of varsity hockey as a middle schooler before moving to play at the AAA/Tier 1 level. Karter was called up to skate with multiple junior teams, but wants everyone to know he “got sent home from a lot of junior teams as well.”

Karter is now focused on developing the next generation of players. He aims to be a positive role model on and off the ice. He focuses on the value of being the hardest worker on (and off) the ice and preparing for games physically and mentally.

Karter was assistant coach for the 16U Tier 2 team during the 2020-2021 season.
